The West of Scotland PFA Strut

The strut encompasses the rather large area from Oban in the north west, through Glasgow to Prestwick in the south and Stirling in the east. We also have one member in Inverness and another down in Kent. However the majority of our 70 plus members are divided between Prestwick and Glasgow. Our Strut meetings alternate between Prestwick and Glasgow to keep as many members as happy as possible. We also arrange visits to projects being built as well as other interesting venues. The meeting dates vary, so please contact the co-ordinator for further details. We do not have a main airfield although four of the members have built their own hangar at Cumbernauld and a couple more of our pilot/owners also keep their planes there.

Don't hesitate to e-mail or phone Trev Maycock if you have any queries of any sort.

PFA Strusts are regional groups of the PFA (Popular Flying Association) and, for those of you who don't know, the objectives of the PFA are to promote and extend the sport of recreational flying by minimising its cost through the advice and services provided by the association for:

  • The encouragement of amateur design, construction and operation of light and ultralight aircraft.
  • The formation and administration of co-ownership Groups and Clubs
  • The preservation and operation of vintage aircraft.
  • The discharge of regualtory responsibilities assigned by statutory bodies and government departments.
  • The co-operation and negotiation with the government departments and other interested organisations to ensure that members' best interests are protected.
  • Generally to carry out such acts as may be conducive to the encouragement and development of recreational flying.
